Maurice White, pendiri dan juga lead vocal band legendaris “Earth, Wind and Fire” meninggal dunia di usia 74 tahun Kamis (4/2) pagi waktu setempat saat sedang tertidur. Diduga Maurice meninggal karena parkinson.
Berita duka itu disampaikan sang adik, Verdine White yang juga merupakan personil Earth, Wind & Fire sebagai bassist.
Sebenarnya, Maurice sudah didiagnosa menderita parkinson sejak tahun 1992. Kondisinya semakin menurun beberapa bulan terakhir.
Earth, Wind & Fire telah melahirkan sejumlah hits seperti “September”, “After the Love has Gone”, “Boogie Wonderland”, dan “Let’s Groove”.
Earth, Wind, & Fire pernah masuk ke dalam jajaran Rock and Roll Hall of Fame di tahun 2000, dan Maurice sendiri masuk ke dalam jajaran Songwriters Hall of Fame di tahun 2010. Dan telah melahirkan total 21 album dari tahun 1975 hingga album terakhirnya Holiday di tahun 2014.
