Terdengar mirip, Ed Sheeran dituntut 20 Juta USD untuk lagu “Photograph”

Penyanyi asal Inggris, Ed Sheeran lagi dirundung masalah nih, Anak Trax! Setelah sebelumnya kasus plagiatisme ditujukan pada Justin Bieber untuk lagu “Sorry“, kini kasus yang sama menimpa Ed untuk lagu “Photograph“.

Ed dikabarkan dituntut hampir $20Juta atau setara hampir Rp 270 milyar, oleh pencipta lagu “Amazing”, yaitu Martin Harrington dan Thomas Leonard. Lagu “Amazing” ini dibawakan oleh juara X-Factor UK 2010, Matt Cardle.

Pada persidangan yang digelar Rabu (8/6) waktu setempat, di Los Angeles, melaporkan bahwa Ed meng-copy total 39 not yang sama persis. Itu menandakan bahwa irama, nada, tempo lagu tersebut benar-benar terdengar sama.

Pihak pencipta lagu juga menyebutkan kalau persamaan beberapa kata, cara bernyanyi, dan ritme lagu terdengar mirip dengan lagu “Amazing“.

Lagu “Amazing” merupakan single ketiga Matt Cardle setelah dirinya memenangkan ajang X-Factor UK, tapi hanya berhasil menduduki posisi 84 chart UK, dan meraih hampir 1,2 juta viewers di YouTube.

Sedangkan single “Photograph” merupakan single yang membawa kesuksesan Ed Sheeran seperti sekarang. Terhitung tanggal 1 Juni 2016 saja, single “Photograph“ sudah terjual di beberapa platform digital sebanyak 3,5 juta kali, dan untuk viewers di YouTube, Ed unggul dengan meraih hampir 209 juta penonton.

Martin Harrington dan Thomas Leonard meminta bantuan pengacara Richard Busch, yaitu pengacara yang juga berhasil memenangkan kasus plagiatisme lagu “Blurred Lines” milik Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke, dan TI, yang menjiplak lagu “Got to Give It Up” milik Marvin Gaye.
