Jennie Blackpink Diduga Dieksploitasi Serial HBO untuk Promosi
Pada 2022 lalu, beredar kabar bahwa Jennie Kim selaku member idol group Blackpink akan debut akting lewat serial produksi HBO berjudul The Idol. Setelah trailernya rilis pada pertengahan 2022, penggemar pun jadi semakin antusias untuk melihat Jennie Blackpink, terlebih karena ia terkesan punya peran yang penting. Sayangnya, belum lama ini justru muncul kabar kurang menyenangkan dari keterlibatan Jennie di The Idol.
Serial The Idol awalnya disutradarai oleh Amy Seimetz dan sudah sempat menyelesaikan 80% dari total proses produksinya. Namun, Seimetz akhirnya mundur karena mengalami perbedaan visi kreatif dengan HBO. Setelah itu, posisi Seimetz sebagai sutradara digantikan oleh Sam Levinson yang sebelumnya sukses menggarap serial Euphoria.
Levinson memang berhasil menyelesaikan proses produksi dari serial The Idol, tapi masalah juga muncul karena keterlibatannya sebagai sutradara. Melansir Rolling Stone, serial The Idol jadi mengalami perubahan besar setelah Levinson jadi sutradara dari konsep awal yang direncanakan Seimetz.
Sebelumnya, The Idol versi Seimetz hanya berkisah tentang bintang muda yang jadi korban predator industri musik dan berusaha merebut kembali agensinya. Namun, The Idol versi Levinson pun kabarnya menjadi serial dengan cerita yang lebih mengeksploitasi adegan seks dan telanjang dari para pemainnya, meski sebenarnya tak terlalu berpengaruh buat jalan ceritanya.
Selain itu, masalah lain juga datang terkait alasan Sam Levinson melibatkan Jennie Blackpink sebagai salah satu pemain serial The Idol. Sebab, kabarnya Levinson hanya menggaet Jennie untuk mendongkrak popularitas serial The Idol.
Porsi Jennie dalam serial ini kabarnya enggak sebanyak yang terlihat pada trailernya, dan hanya punya dialog yang sedikit. Bahkan, kisah dari karakternya Jennie dalam The Idol kabarnya sama sekali enggak punya pengaruh apapun terhadap konflik utama ceritanya. Fakta bahwa karakter Jennie dikisahkan sebagai seorang biseksual juga kabarnya hanya jadi “click-bait” agar orang tertarik buat menonton serialnya.

“Itu seperti hanya tiga atau empat dialog untuknya (Jennie) per episode. Mereka (tim produksi) tidak memberikannya kesempatan berbicara sebanyak itu. Tugas (Jennie) benar-benar hanya untuk duduk di sana dan terlihat cantik pada dasarnya,” ungkap salah satu sumber dari tim produksi The Idol seperti yang dilaporkan oleh Rolling Stone.
Terlepas dari terungkapnya kontroversi ini, serial The Idol masih dijadwalkan untuk tayang di kanal HBO pada 2023 ini.
